23.10.2020 - Contact vs. Method
As a psychologist, you work from methodological ideas and use specific ways of asking questions, for example. You may have an opinion on specific approaches or exercises that may be relevant in a specific situation with a client. Sometimes you encounter a professional distinction that encourages you to see the method and your contact with the client as something different. For example, that the contact should precede the method.
I have considered this and find that the contact is largely based on one's professional standpoint as a psychologist. That they express the same thing. The contact is Method. The way you meet the client is very different depending on whether you work Cognitively, Narratively or more Psychodynamically. Are you very active and structuring as a psychologist or are you more waiting for the client's experiences, thoughts and feelings?
Contacts is Method.
