Licensed clinical psychologist
My name is Stefan Andrzej Czartoryski. I am Cand. Psych, Clinical Psychologist and retired with multiple sclerosis. Graduated in 2003 from the University of Copenhagen, Authorized in 2006 and +90% finished as a Specialist in Psychotherapy with Adults.
Diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2010. I have clinical psychological treatment tasks, organizational psychological tasks and supervision of younger psychologists. I have a maximum of two sessions a week, Tuesday and Thursday mornings to fit in with family and treatment. Clients receive a copy of my notes from the session and are welcome to record our conversations. As a result of the sclerosis, I am easily moved, especially by touching stories. It typically takes a moment for me to regain my composure. I don't get sad, just moved.
I have worked with psychiatric patients since 1994 before, during and after my psychology studies. I am a member of the Danish Psychological Association (Member number: 8895), works according to the Ethical Principles of Nordic Psychologists and is Authorized by the Danish Patient Safety Authority: www.stps.dk with Authorization ID: 0GZT2
In recent years, I have become more inspired by the ideas of Carl Rogers' Humanistic-based therapy; working with an unconditional positive approach to the client's perspective and a non-directive approach where the client decides their own focus. I've been a client in that kind of therapy myself, and it's the approach I've liked best. It's more unstructured in its focus than the cognitive and narrative style I come from, but it gives both the client and myself more freedom in the conversation, I feel. A more structured approach like thecognitive fits well in a psychiatric hospital setting where there are many patients on waiting lists and limited time for each individual.
I work with research-based and psychologically recognized methods. In relation to practice-based evidence and evidence-based practice: you need both at the same time. It's like Yin and Yang: they are each other's prerequisites.
My colleague Kim Gabriel Hansen mentions that evidence-based practice (EBP) is working from proven techniques in a way that makes sense in the moment for the client. One cannot stand alone and the other cannot stand alone. So: Research-based knowledge, the psychologist's skills and the client's preferences.
Where does the name of my practice come from? I was sitting in a morning meeting in my department down at the Sankt Hans Psychiatric Center. The doctor remarked that a patient was now finished with medical treatment and was going over to the psychologist's table. That was a great name for a company, I thought. Shortly afterwards, I went on sick leave with sclerosis and later bought a domain for a website. I wrote to The Doctor's Table and asked if they minded if I used that name. They were fine with it. And the rest is history.
🇵🇱 I was born and raised in Denmark. Mój tata uciekł z Polski w roku 1958. Mama jest Dunką. Zacząłem podróżować do Polski w roku 1982. Wtedy zacząłem się uczyć mówić trochę po polsku, ale dopiero od 2001 rozmawiałem po polsku więcej. I have made mistakes, but let us take our own advice.
