Ethics and morals; what is what?

Although I've been on courses and had some training on the subject, it's always been unclear how to make the distinction. Until the other day when I realized that Ethics could be seen as theory about the good and right actions, while Morality was more practice-oriented. How to act on the theories. Whether you steal the apple when no one is looking? My wise colleague who teaches the rest of us on the subject confirmed it and that ethics is more a statement of intent about good behavior. It's great to have understood some of it.
